Artful takeover

I noticed the door was open yesterday, in what was the entrance to Jigsaw, opposite Waitrose.

That whole complex is destined to become home to Bath Fashion Museum, but currently, part of it is housing a free exhibition of work by artists taking part in this year’s Fringe Arts Festival (FaB).

It’s been a popular port-of-call this week too, as it’s half term!

To quote from the free programme, which lists events and venues across the city, it says: ” FaB brings curiosity and visual arts to the heart of the City of Bath, occupying empty shops and unusual spaces and spilling out onto the streets.

Since 2007, FaB has offered a platform for emerging curators and artists, a test bed to experiment and explore new ideas.”

On behalf of Fringe, Arran Hidgson told me:

‘”Fringe Arts Bath (FaB), the city’s vibrant visual arts festival, is currently underway and runs until 7th June.

Don’t miss your chance to experience this unique celebration of creativity that transforms Bath’s empty shops, unusual spaces, and streets into platforms for contemporary art.

FaB is a grassroots, artist-led festival that champions early-career curators and emerging artists. Acting as a test-bed for new and exciting ideas, the festival offers opportunities for creatives to share their workdevelop professional skills, and even curate exhibitions of their own.

This year, three central venues are playing host to a variety of exhibitions and events:

  • The Old Post Office ( The one opposite Waitrose)
  • 44AD Artspace
  • Walcot Chapel

Festival Highlights:
One of the standout features of this year’s festival is the Mini Film Festival, taking place on 3rd, 4th, and 5th June at The Old Post Office (opposite Waitrose).

Expect an eclectic selection of short films and music documentaries that showcase bold storytelling and innovative filmmaking.

Fringe Arts Bath isn’t just an art festival — it’s a movement that brings art to the people of Bath and its visitors throughout the year, through pop-up events, an annual art prize, and more.

Whether you’re a seasoned art lover or just curious, there’s something for everyone at FaB.”
