New hotel plans submitted.

We’ve listened to public comments on our initial plans say the Fragrance Group – who have just submitted a planning application – with proposals for a new lifestyle hotel, spa and restaurant in the centre of the city – to Bath and North East Somerset Council.

The Grade II* listed Royal Mineral Water Hospital buildings were acquired by the Fragrance Group last year and Bath-based architects Stride Treglown and a team of specialist consultants have drawn up plans to create a high-quality hotel, spa and restaurant.

NHS staff and services based at the building, also known as the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, are being transferred to new fit-for-purpose facilities at the Royal United Hospitals Trust at Combe Park in the city

The Fragrance Group’s proposals were drawn up following extensive discussions with council planning and heritage officers, as well as Historic England, and went on show early in October, when the public were asked for their feedback.

Martin Rogers, from Global Hotels & Leisure Consultancy, on behalf of the Fragrance Group, said: “We are very grateful to everyone who took the time to view the proposals at our exhibition and on our project website.

“The feedback was very supportive of our overarching proposals to preserve and enhance these much-loved buildings.

“We have taken into account all of the comments from the public and other stakeholders and, as a result, we have refined our designs, primarily the appearance of a new extension to the rear of the West Wing.

“The proposals will secure the long-term future of the Royal Mineral Water Hospital buildings and also provide exciting new facilities for residents and visitors alike.”
