I have to wish good luck to the five friends who are preparing to go the extra mile this Saturday, 26 September, as they take on a 50km walk through Bath and the surrounding countryside to raise money for Family First Ghana.
Rosie Watts, Harriet Moatt, Liberty Hamer, Sarah Withams and Buse Yediayli will walk approximately 50km in a single day, beginning in Bath at 6.30 am and aiming to return around 13 hours later.
Their circular route will take them from Bath through Batheaston, Colerne, Slaughterford, Box, Bradford on Avon and Monkton Combe before returning to the city. Along the way, friends and family will form a support team, meeting the walkers at different points with food, water and plenty of encouragement.
The challenge is raising money for Family First Ghana, a charity supporting families of children with disabilities and complex medical needs in Kumasi, Ghana.
The group has already raised more than £1,100 towards its initial £1,300 target, with every donation helping to provide practical, long-term support for children and their families.

Funds raised will contribute towards projects including a safe and accessible outdoor play area at Agape Love Inclusive School, specialist therapeutic equipment, engaging classroom resources and outreach physiotherapy and speech and language therapy delivered in homes, schools and local communities.
Rosie, who founded the charity and organised the fundraiser alongside the other walkers, said: “Walking 50km in one day is going to be a huge challenge, but knowing what every mile could help make possible will keep us moving.
“Family First Ghana does incredibly important work to ensure children with disabilities have opportunities to learn, play and develop in safe and inclusive environments. We have been overwhelmed by the support received so far and would love to raise as much as possible before we cross the finish line on Saturday.”
Family First Ghana works directly with families while partnering with hospitals, schools and community organisations to help children develop greater skills, confidence and independence.
Those who would like to support the challenge can donate through the group’s GoFundMe page:
