Regular followers of this blog will know l often feature the latest news concerning the duck ponds in Royal Victoria Park, where there hasn’t been much in the way of water for our feathered friends to paddle in for some considerable time.
There are many interested parties quite active in airing their grievances against the local authority and Wessex Water, who have been regarded as inactive when it comes to solving the issue of a proper water supply entering a watertight pond system.
Well, just last month I sat down in Sydney Gardens to talk to Cllr Oli Henman – Cabinet Project Lead for Climate Change – as to what progress had been made in restoring the ponds.
Now today on the Nextdoor website l see a council release giving even more up-to-date information. It came with a picture of a noticeboard that they have erected at the site.
The council release says:
“You may have spotted our new information boards at Royal Victoria Park ponds about our long-term vision to restore a reliable water supply and create a better environment for wildlife.
This autumn we’ll be welcoming your views in our public consultation to help us shape the future of the ponds.
In the meantime, the works to remove silt and the broken liner will be finished this week.

I was up there a week ago and filmed the contractors dredging the top pond. They told me the silt they are lifting is full of stones and broken glass.
