There are many guided tours of Bath for our visitors to choose from, but one of them has an impressive history and a unique selling point. It’s FREE!

The Mayor of Bath’s Corps of Honorary Guides have been in existence since the 1930’s, and today around 85 volunteer guides turn out in all weathers twice a day – except Christmas Day.

I’ve been talking to one of them. A man who has just celebrated his 1500th walk spread out over the 37 years he’s spent showing our visitors the historical and architectural delights of our World Heritage City.

Terry Mitchell is a Tuesday walker and still belongs to a group of guides of which l was also briefly a member some years ago.
As it is Tuesday, let’s go and meet him!

I loved watching this! What a fantastic service to our great city. Terry is one of my neighbours and we catch up over the fence from time to time. A man of many talents, I understand he has a strong record of football refereeing and even ran the line in an FA cup final once. I look forward to seeing him and his lovely wife and telling them how pleased I was to catch this interview.
As Terry’s brother I joined him with my daughter Claire his niece and goddaughter on his 1,500 walk.
Well done Terry. What a brilliant contribution to our City. We look forward to seeing you parade with your staff of office at Mayor -making soon.
What an amazing interview! You are an inspiration to us newbies.
