Alongside the old KES School and Mineral Water Hospital, another building of shame,
Standing in a prime tourist spot – what was Bath’s Tourist Information Office.
What’s happening here?

I so agree. It was the perfect spot for Bath Tourist information and it looks terrible now
I thought the same the other day, it was the perfect place for tourist information – and information for local events -where is it now?
The same can be asked of the old Hand’s Dairy on the adjacent corner
I believe there is some uncertainty about the owner and, as is often the case, the Council says its hands are tied.
Notwithstanding the derelict state of the building ; I cannot understand how such a beautiful and famous world heritage city doesn’t have a tourist / information office.
Or enough public toilets.
It’s such a shame. If not an information centre – a gallery for local artists and craftspeople?
That building used to be the Portland Cement offices an din 1967/68 they applied to knock it down and replace it with a concrete eyesore. None of the preservation groups objected but Phillipa Savery, who ran an antique shop in what is now the cafe in Abbey Green, set up a petition and gathered signatures from around the world. I helped wit signature collection in the Abbey Church yard and she swayed the decision into a No. It was during the time that the Sack of Bath was trampling all over the city and if it hadn’t been for her efforts the building that is now empty would look a lot worse.
It is unbelievable that a UNESCO city such as Bath, so loved by tourists, with an annual Xmas Market, an annual Jane Austen Festival & multiple Bath Festival events, no longer has a Tourist Office, whilst that perfect location it was in stands empty & deteriorates.
Come on, Mr. Mayor, bring it back.
Unfortunately this sums up Bath. The centre looks wretched, uncared for, dirty and if i came as a tourist i would be very disappointed. And I live here too.
