Please, find some time to listen in to the podcast l did with Chris Kilmington – the man who wants Bath to install centrally-sited memorial informing our visitors and younger citizens of what this city suffered during the war.

I have picked up this material from Facebook, where the police are appealing for help in catching those responsible for vandalising the monument in the Shaftesbury Road memorial garden.

Only last year, Chris and the then Mayor, Cllr Michelle O’Doherty, unveiled a plaque to the 66 children killed by enemy bombs.

Chris talks about this and his family story in the podcast. Including meeting one of the Luftwaffe bomber pilots who came back to Bath to apologise.
If you can help the police catch these culprits, do your best. In the meantime, the link to the podcast is on the blog.

Some people sadly are just wicked ,Richard, we all live in the hope that they don’t blight our lives . 🤝
Shame on modern day Parenting
Not just modern day. I remember 60 years ago as a teenager going to a travelling exhibition of vandalised phone boxes organised by the GPO. I’m not sure why phone boxes get so much shtick across the world. In the village where I stayed in Tobago , what used to be the public phone was just a square of concrete with two bare wires sticking up. The postmistress just sighed and said “Boys, eh?” In our street in Tokyo there was a sign on the phone box which said ” Out of order. This telephone has been damaged by foreign savages”, meaning us probably by the looks we got. They think vandalism is a European thing.
Firstly, thank you so much to Mr. Richard Wyatt, for allowing me to speak with him and express my feelings regarding issues about the bath, blitz the Proposed City Center, Memorial obviously subject to planning permission and sponsorships, and your understanding and support regarding the vandalism in Shaftsbury Rd., Memorial Gardens regarding the children’s names Thank you again Richard for your kind understanding and commitment to the issues in our city of Bath. I have had several people expressing the disgraceful behavior of person or persons responsible. The vandalism of the children’s plaque, which I called the last generation as indeed hurt me and my family. I’m probably many people who live in the lovely city of Bath and surrounding areas.
Mr. Wyatt. Richard, I have been today at about midday Tuesday to the memorial garden in in Shaftsbury Road, only to find that the stone has had the lower plastic moulding and the complete side cover removed and pulled away from the main stone. I have taken pictures. I have also reported it to the police up to now I am waiting for a response from them. I just do not really know what’s going on. In fact if this situation continues, I will remove remaining undefended. City white plaque as well as it seems only a matter of time before this becomes a victim of mindless people or persons.
