Pix of the day. Sunday, June 1st

I have mixed feelings about these images. My friend Bob thinks it’s a real blot on the landscape.

He says: “A bugbear of mine – the overgrown jungle engulfing the former loos at the corner of Pulteney Road and North Parade Bridge Road – a highly visible eyesore for all visitors!”

It’s a sort of natural memorial to public conveniences.

In a way, the fact that Nature is engulfing the site reminds us who is really in charge of this Earth.

  1. I recently walked Bath and photographed many toilets and sites where they existed which we closed by the LibDems. I posted my results on the Facebook Media receiving many comments.

    1. Closed under both Tory and LibDem administrations largely as a consequence of government funding cuts. And these closed WCs invariably date from the time of Bath City Council, which had so much money to spare that it didn’t even bother to collect a city rate.

I think this one looks rather wonderful, though.

  2. A real eye-sore but I can never understand why there was a public loo in such an out-of-the way place. Better to clear the site completely, replace with a nice garden and set up a new loo in the city centre – where they are really needed.

  3. This one is spectacularly verdant. I too am in two minds about it and quite admire its steadfast fight against creeping tweeness and the ever encroaching tide of plastic flowers. On the other hand, the bogs in Widcombe have been rebuilt into the neatest little office and shopfront for a roofing company you could ever imagine. All well and good but having reached a certain age, ahem, my needs dictate a (sometimes desperate) desire for these structures to be returned to their original purpose!
