So no overhead Christmas decorations this year?
I took it up with B&NES and here’s what the authority’s Leader, Councillor Kevin Guy, had to say:
“We have worked with Bath BID and town councils to keep the lights on in most locations but, like many councils, we have had to make big savings to compensate for the increased demand in Social Care, which means fewer lights this Christmas in the centre of the city.

“However, we have illuminated city centre buildings and we have our fantastic festive Christmas Market bringing visitors and millions of pounds into Bath.

We have our traditional Christmas tree outside the Abbey, and you’ll see the magical carousel in Stall Street again and, of course, we have a beautiful city with lots of beautifully-decorated shops, cafes and bars, to enjoy at this special time of the year.”
Their contribution to combatting global warming perhaps? Well done!
I noticed the lack of lights this year too! The council seemed to have stayed very quiet about this. I’d love you to find out what’s happened
A victim of Council cost cutting. Not something they wanted to publicise.
In the centre of the town the lighting of the Abbey, Abbey Green, the Min and the passageways and side streets will help to offset the lack of overhead decorations but I think it is a shame that, as a minimum, the entry points to the city centre, Union Street and Milsom Street, are not being decorated.
As it is people will walk into the centre through the beautifully lit Southgate area and turn into the blackness that will be Union Street.
I haven’t been down Milsom Street forma while…I guess they are not going up as the Christmas Market starts Thursday….That’s sad
