I have just come across a previously unknown acronym – S.T.E.M.
Unknown to me but very familiar l think to any youngster looking for a technological or scientific career.
It’s an abbreviation of science, technology, engineering and, mathematics and it’s a perfect way of summing up what’s on offer later this month in a four-day event – coming up in the city – and covering such subjects.
After a successful 2023 exhibition, local engineering companies are returning to Bath Royal Literary & Scientific Institution, from the 24th to the 27th, with Brilliantly Engineered. It will aim to showcase the amazing technology and engineering strength emanating from the South West.
Comprising of a community focused weekend event and student learning workshops during the week, the event promises to be a fun learning experience for families & kids of all ages; in fact, anyone with an interest in science, technology or engineering!
A range of exhibition stands demonstrating real world applications of science, technology, engineering and maths will run through the day, with staff on hand to explain the principles involved and discuss the life of an engineer.
Team Bath Racing Electric from University of Bath will also be discussing the challenges of building an electric vehicle, while local companies such as Rocketmakers, BMT, Buro Happold & Whiley & Co will be on hand to demonstrate the work they do and answer questions about engineering as a career.
Families and groups are invited to take part in a range of workshops and presentations that will take place across the Saturday and Sunday. The Dyson Foundation will be on hand throughout the event, running engineering workshops and setting challenges such as building a balloon race car or even building a bridge made of spaghetti.
Monday and Tuesday will be dedicated to GCSE, A Level and college level Engineering workshops, while Primary Schools will be invited to enjoy the exhibition, watch demonstrations and talk to engineers.
The exhibition and all activities are offered completely free of charge and everyone is welcome to visit.
Brilliantly Engineered.
