It’s a place he knows well. Before moving from Boston to Bath, to take over as Director of The American Museum (and Gardens), Richard Wendorf was at the heart of the New York art world.
It’s the location for his first non-academic venture into writing with the release of his first murder mystery novel.

Richard, who retired from the Claverton-based museum in December 2021, met me at Coppa Club in Milsom Street to discuss the book and his life – both in Britain and Bath.
‘As a collector, art historian, and former museum and library director,’ he said, ‘I’ve spent a good deal of time in New York and enjoyed my time there very much – it has an abundance of museums and galleries, and a beautiful antiques fair as well, so the setting is perfect for my story.’

‘The world can use a good mystery right now, some lively chatter, and a glimpse of the New York art world with all of its glamour and pitfalls.’
Richard is working on the sequel to The Subtle Thief, entitled The Man Who Looked Too Closely, which will be published next year.
