Yes, it looks all wrong without it! The Dutch style gable on which it was displayed is /was a visual pleasure. Modern bland contributions to Bath’s skyline are sadly lacking in twiddly bits. Bath Riverside, which I am obliged to look at all day long, could do with some carved stone acorns for example ! See Natural Theatre HQ on Widcombe Hill which has some splendid twiddles in the form of carvings of the company’s comical characters by trainee college masons. Lifts one’s spirit before attacking the mighty slope ahead.
