A busy night last night but found time to pop into Waterstones on Milsom Street where my friend Bill Keeling was officially launching the second book in his Gay Street Chronicles series.
Never heard of The Gay Street Chronicles? Well, that puts you two stories behind in an hilarious series of books – based in Regency Bath – that have been penned by local author Bill.
It’s called Belle Nash and the Bath Circus and is available – along with the first story in the series – in local bookshops.

Bill brings to life a colourful fictional character and uses him to expose all the social injustices and bigotry of the time – and has great fun doing it too.
Bill himself has led a colourful – and sometimes very dangerous – life too as he explained to me when we chatted before breakfast at The Coppa Club in Milsom Street.
I recently did a podcast with Bill which you can find in Wyatt’s Place on Spotify.
A great read. Clever and witty invocation of the period, warts and all. And excellent canapés at the book launch at Waterstones. Seemed there would be loads left over so I filled my free Bath Life tote bag and redistributed amongst the homeless on the way to my bus stop! Spread the culture! Or at least the fruit kebabs.
