The water’s lovely!

“Bring your bathers if you like,” said the press release from Cleveland Pools Trust as we members of the ‘Fourth Estate’ were invited down to preview Britain’s newly-restored and oldest outdoor public swimming pool.

It happens to be the day before this Grade 2* listed 200-year-old beauty of Bath finally throws its crystal-clear waters open to the general public.

Recent good weather has raised the temperature to around 22C l was told, but l politely declined and will wait til the heating mechanism is finally set up in the near future.

Cold water swimming hasn’t put off others more hardy than me. The week-end is booked out.

I know l have lost weight, but this is ridiculous!

It’s been a long-time coming. The result of much effort by a bunch of people with a dream. One that finally has come true.
