What’s this? Activity at the old King Edward’s School building in Broad Street?

Alex Sherman, CEO of Bath Preservation Trust, happened to be passing this historic – but seemingly forgotten building – at the time workmen were entering the former school house which dates from the mid 18th century.
Owned by a brewery, it has stood empty for nearly forty years – though having twice been given permission to convert it into a hotel and restaurant.
Alex told me:
” I spoke briefly with one of the team who are tidying up a bit, dealing with pigeons and sorting out some stonework.
It sounds to me like the brewery are doing the minimum necessary to maintain the building and keep it watertight – this is all that is needed to stop enforcement action I believe.”
Time for B&NES to push the owners a little harder to finally say whether they want to redevelop the site or not – methinks.
