Raising cash – and the roof!

It’s the final week of rehearsing coming up for the 18 Bath choirs – with over 600 singers – currently preparing for their performances in Choirthon – a 10-hour long FREE concert in Bath on Saturday, June 10th in aid of the Turkey & Syrian Earthquake appeal.

Singers and audience members will be donating at the event, and also those watching at home on the live stream with the hope of raising £5000 for the appeal.

One Syrian refugee from Bath Welcomes Refugees, called Asmaa, will be coming to listen and also volunteer at the event.

Asmaa

She has helped create a video to show at the event, describing the desperate need for funds for the DEC Turkey & Earthquake appeal. https://youtu.be/dH8r5Aw3I6c

Tickets are free for the event but because of numbers (one choir has over 100 singers!) audience members must book their free tickets in advance for each slot. There should be tickets available on the door – but just in case, please book in advance. Each singer and audience member is being asked to donate about £5 via a justgiving link, or in the buckets at the door with the aim to raise over £5000 by the end of the concert.

Matt Finch

The man behind the event is musical director Matt Finch. He said “It’s going to be a fantastically varied day of singing – Gospel, Classical, Pop, Folk, Rock and loads more. If each choir member brings just one person and we all donate just £5, we can raise over £5000 and have a fantastic day of music making.”

Matt is very excited to have the Keynsham Music Man Project coming. They are a Music Club for Adults and Learning Disabilities. Matt hosted a number of online concerts during the pandemic and the Music Man Project always performed, sending smiles to every living room! This will be his first opportunity to work with them live.

Matt will be bringing his own choir Horizons, who started singing in September, but also will be leading the Bath Light Operatic Group which he has been with for over 25 years!

The 10 hour concert will be broadcast live online via his website http://www.finchmusic.co.uk, so people from anywhere across the globe can watch and all those in the choir can share with friends and relatives.
