So sorry to hear of the passing of actor and comic Roy Hudd.
A true professional and very funny man. I had the honour of playing the baddie in his pantomime – Babes in the Wood – at Bath’s Theatre Royal back in 1989.
In the excellent company of the late Geoffrey Hughes, Roy was, without doubt, the star of his own show. He’d written, produced and directed it.
I remember the moment – several weeks into the run – when he finally gave this old ‘semi-regional celeb’ the nod of approval. An amateur amongst the pros. I think it was after a glass or two at an after-show party!
Roy hosted BBC Radio 2’s The News Huddlines for 26 years and even starred in Coronation Street. This all-round entertainer was 83. My condolences to his wife Debbie. He’ll be another bright star in the heavens. Oh yes, he will.
