New man at the front.

The Silver Ring Choir, one of Bath’s oldest choral groups, has appointed John Sandford as their new conductor.

John has a degree in music and has conducted many choirs in previous places before moving to Bath 4 years ago.

Indeed one of his previous choirs “ Vivace ! “ did very well in the BBC’s popular Last Choir Standing competition and led the BBC’s WWI Remembrance Day broadcast and was invited to sing at the Foreign Office.

John also conducts the ladies choir Viva Vocals based in Corsham.

Marian McNeir MBE, Chairman of the SRC said how delighted they were to welcome John in his new role and feels sure he will be a worthy successor for much-loved conductor Philip Draisey who has moved on to orchestral conducting.

“ John impressed us with his wide-ranging choral experience and his obvious enthusiasm for all kinds of music – we are very excited at his plans for developing our repertoire. “

The SRC is always interested in hearing from singers who would like to join a friendly, mixed voice choir. For further details, see their website www.silverringchoir.org.uk
