Reading is one of the most important and vital skills children need to learn so, in a bid to encourage and enhance this experience for youngsters at Twerton Infants School, local Councillor Sarah Moore has used her knitting skills to provide each child starting in reception class this year with their own reading buddy.
Sarah has knitted 38 owls, one for each child to keep and use each time they are reading. Sarah said “Every child likes to talk to someone and be listened to, but that is not always possible, and you often see children playing and talking with their toys, so in providing each of them with a reading buddy I am hoping this will enable them to feel they can pick up a book at any time and read with their Owl”.
“I have also knitted a variety of colours to represent the fact that just because they do not all look the same, they are the same bird and can do the same job”.
The school is hosting Open Days for parents and their children who are looking for a place in a Reception Class in September 2020.
