Clean air roadshow

Commercial vehicle operators are being invited to a free half-day roadshow to find out more about how a proposed charging clean air zone (CAZ) in central Bath could affect them.

The event at Bath Racecourse on Wednesday 6 March is being organised by Motor Transport Magazine in conjunction with Bath & North East Somerset Council.

Along with 27 other authorities, the council has been told by the Government to cut dangerous levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) in the shortest possible time or by 2021 at the latest.

Under the proposed plans for a CAZ commercial vehicle operators would need to ensure their fleet vehicles meet Euro-6 standards for diesel and Euro-4 standards for petrol to avoid being charged in a proposed zone.

Councillor Bob Goodman, cabinet member for Development and Neighbourhoods, said: “Air pollution in Bath has to be addressed to make the city cleaner, greener and healthier. Our aim is to be compliant with the minimum detrimental effect on our visitors, residents and businesses, while maintaining and growing the successful economy in the city. The Clean Air Roadshow will give commercial vehicle operators a chance to find out how our proposals will affect them and the options available to ensure they are compliant.”

The roadshow will provide invaluable advice to those operating or servicing commercial vehicles via a series of short workshops designed to help both local and national operators future-proof their fleets.

Topics will include:

  • Rental, leasing and maintenance options for alternative fuel commercial vehicles
  • Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme
  • Case studies from HGV and van operators on the practicalities of implementing alternative fuel fleet vehicles.

Councillor Mark Shelford, cabinet member for Transport and Environment said: “This event is specifically designed to help commercial vehicle operators ensure they are compliant. They will be able to hear first-hand from operators who are already using a variety of alternative fuels in their vehicles and they will be able get advice from rental and retrofit specialists on choosing the right option for their fleet.”

Manufacturers will also be on hand to discuss the latest urban technology and vehicles on the market.
