The Art of bell ringing

bath abbey The bells of historic Bath Abbey feature in an unusual sound installation currently on display at the American Museum on Claverton Down this week. (w/c7th April)

It’s the work of a partnership called Liminal involving architect Frances Crow and sound artist and composer David Prior.

They say they like to explore the relationship between sound, listening and the environment.bath abbey

The work – called ‘Of this Parish’ – was created during a workshop at the ICIA – a contemporary arts organisation which is part of the University of Bath.

It’s hoped – after the week at the American Museum – the sound work may be able to be displayed for a period at Bath Abbey itself.

New Yorker Michael Bassett is Creative Producer at the ICIA and l asked him to tell me more about how the work was made. Apologies for the wind noise while we recorded our chat outside the Abbey.
