The bells of historic Bath Abbey feature in an unusual sound installation currently on display at the American Museum on Claverton Down this week. (w/c7th April)
It’s the work of a partnership called Liminal involving architect Frances Crow and sound artist and composer David Prior.
They say they like to explore the relationship between sound, listening and the environment.
The work – called ‘Of this Parish’ – was created during a workshop at the ICIA – a contemporary arts organisation which is part of the University of Bath.
It’s hoped – after the week at the American Museum – the sound work may be able to be displayed for a period at Bath Abbey itself.
New Yorker Michael Bassett is Creative Producer at the ICIA and l asked him to tell me more about how the work was made. Apologies for the wind noise while we recorded our chat outside the Abbey.
