It’s pretty obvious – judging by the amount of scaffolding that’s been covering the exterior of the building – that a large amount of work has been underway on the external fabric of the Pump Room and Roman Baths entrance building.

A new slate roof has been installed and cleaning and conservation work carried out to the Georgian and Victorian facades – including re-gilding the ancient Greek letters that spell out the ‘water is best’ quote from Pinder beneath the pediment of the Pump Room.

However, it’s what you can’t see that the Virtual Museum is concerned with here.
