Happy birthday Martin!

What’s half a century in a World Heritage city that’s been chalking up notable dates for two thousand years? Well if it’s your 50th birthday and you spend most of every recent year dressed as a Regency gentleman on doorstep duty in Bath – that’s reason enough to celebrate.

Martin Salter is the cheery face who greets visitors to the Jane Austen Centre in Gay Street, Bath and today’s his birthday. Last year he was awarded the title of England’s most photographed face as thousands of tourists coming into the Centre stop to have their picture taken with him.

Seems Martin did his birthday celebrations a couple of days ago but he’s excited about one rather special present coming his way next Friday. He has been asked by the BBC to appear on this year’s Children In Need – an annual fund raising bash that has brought in over £650 million pounds for children’s charities since 1980.
