A real rags to riches tale!

P1060364Bath’s Victoria Art Gallery is currently staging a stunning loan exhibition of more than 50 paintings and drawings to mark the centenary of the birth of an artist who is reckoned to be the city’s most famous painter since Gainsborough.

William Scott lived for most of his life near Bath, first at Elm Tree Cottage, Hallatrow (1946-65) and later at Bennetts Hill Farm, Coleford (1965-89).IMG_4688

He also taught for ten years as Senior Painting Master at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham Court.

This exhibition – which runs through to November – covers all aspects of his distinguished career. It includes loans from the Arts Council Collection and National Museum Wales and is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue, talks, tours and art workshops.
