I was sorry to read that we could soon see the closure of The Piano Shop on the London Road.
A planning application has been made to B&NES to convert it from a shop to three maisonettes.

A paragraph in the accompanying ‘Heritage Statement’ says:
‘The proposal would bring the ground and lower ground floors of three Grade II listed buildings back into residential use. They have been used as a single shop for nearly forty years, and the trade is now declining.

Conversion to three maisonettes would secure the optimum viable use of the buildings and add three new homes in a highly sustainable location within Bath.’
How sad, how true. Some of us are old enough to remember Duck, Son & Pinker on Pulteney Bridge, who sold and renovated pianos for many years, but long since gone. They restored my Broadwood (since given to my daughter) in the late 1980s. Where does one go now, I wonder? Or is it all electronic keyboards?
You don’t have to be that old to remember Duck, Son & Pinker. It’s 15 years since they closed.
