Congratulations to local repair and reuse charity Share and Repair, which this week celebrated one year at its new Hub on the Lower Bristol Road in Bath.
Since relocating their base there last year, the charity has gone from strength to strength and in the last year at their Hub volunteers have-
- Seen over 1,300 items brought in by the local community requiring repair, and the Share and Repair Fixers have mended 75% of them
- Over 3,700 items were borrowed by local people from their Library of Things, saving people the cost of buying new. Pressure washers, drills, carpet cleaners and bunting topped the list of popular items.
- 360 second-hand small electrical items were redistributed for free to those on the lowest incomes via their HomeKIT scheme.
The event was attended by the Right Worshipful Mayor of Bath (Councillor Ruth Malloy) and local Councillor June Player, who kindly cut the first birthday cake made by volunteer Louise Scott.
Ruth Lambert, Share and Repair’s CEO, said, “ We were delighted to be able to celebrate our first year at our Hub with our local community. Our volunteers and staff have worked hard to make it feel like home.
We are delighted to be able to offer a welcoming place for local people to come and find practical ways to reduce their carbon footprint and item at a time”.
They have been warmly welcomed into the local community, and their “first birthday” open house was a chance to come together and celebrate the amazing work Share and Repair’s 250+ volunteer community does to make it easier to borrow instead of buying, to repair instead of buying new and to learn repair skills yourself.
Alongside their Bath base, they also support 12 monthly repair cafes across Bath and North East Somerset and into Wiltshire, with their newest launching in Chippenham in September in partnership with Zero Chippenham.
They PAT test items for the Keynsham Reuse Shop and work with schools to inspire children to give repairing a try!
