Delighted to hear that Chris Kilminster has finally been given a city centre site for his plaque commemorating those killed during the Bath Blitz.
The three intense enemy air raids in April 1942 that took the lives of 417 people – including 66 children who are forever known as the ‘Lost Generation.’
Chris, who lost members of his own family during that time, has campaigned for most of his adult life to have this event memorialised in a central position.
He has already installed memorials in both Roseberry Road, Twerton and Shaftesbury Road in Oldfield Park.
Bath Newseum has followed his campaign for years and is pleased to hear that those good people who operate the Southgate Shopping Centre have given him wall space just around the corner from Boots.
His plaque joins just one more in that area. A memorial marking the original birthplace of Edwina Troutt who had been the oldest survivor of the loss of the Titanic.
Sad that the Bath Blitz Project never achieved their ambition for a decent memorial for all 417 who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Shame on the Coumcil that no Remembrance on that fateful weekend. As a Survivor of the Blitz I place a bouquet at the Cenotaph.
