[How things looked three years ago]
Today I returned after three years to a very special and unique place in Bath’s heritage.
Cleveland Pools – the country’s oldest open-air bathing complex, which had been carefully restored after a twenty-year battle by a group of volunteers to bring it back from dereliction.
Then – instead of a bright future – disaster struck, and following flood damage, this Grade 2 * listed Georgian lido’s long-term prospects might seem dismal.
However, with an almost new board of trustees and a new chair, there’s suddenly a ray of sunshine breaking through the pool’s proverbial clouds.
The Trust has yet to appoint an official fundraiser, but once that’s done, he or she will certainly have a challenging task to fulfil.
Meanwhile, there are welcoming signs of support. The Trust has recently begun emailing its subscriber list again, and it’s been very apparent, very quickly, that there is still a huge amount of interest and goodwill from that community.
Just to remind you, the site will be open to the public on Sunday, September 13th, but you must visit the website and ‘register an interest’ first.
