FixFest is coming!

Save the date! FixFest is on the way! Discover new skills, breathe new life into old favourites, and celebrate sustainable living at a fun-packed family festival featuring hands-on workshops, repair sessions, inspiring talks, and creative activities taking place on 10th October at Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution.

Whether you’re an experienced mender, a curious beginner, an eco-enthusiast, or simply looking for a fun day out, FixFest has something for everyone and sees BRLSI, Dorothy House, and Share and Repair coming together for the first time to help you repair, reuse, restyle and ultimately rethink the way you consume.

If you have an appliance that needs fixing, require second-hand styling inspiration,  or possess a pair of jeans that are just crying out for a bit of attention, this is the festival for you.

Many of the FixFest activities will be free, with workshops kept at as low a cost as possible. Any proceeds and donations made on the day will go toward supporting the three amazing charities involved.

Highlights of the festival include:

BRLSI Quick Fixes

Learn essential stitches, mending techniques and creative ways to patch, repair, and personalise your clothing in 45-minute practical workshops.

Dorothy House Scrunchie Workshop

Hair scrunchies are a real go-to essential for those with long hair but why should they be made from new materials when there is already so much amazing fabric destined for landfill?

Share and Repair Pop-Up Repair Café

Don’t throw it away—bring it along! The expert repair team will be on hand to help fix broken household items.

Dorothy House Fashion Doctors

Share and Repair ‘Jeans to Bag’ Workshops

Dorothy House Bunting Workshops

What better way to decorate for those special occasions than with bunting? A workshop offering the opportunity to make your very own bespoke bunting from preloved fabric such as clothing and upholstery.

BWCE Energy Bar

Visit the BWCE Energy Bar to try your hand at simple draughtproofing techniques, take away free pick’n’mix Cosy Home Kit samples and get inspiration and practical ideas to get crafty at home.

BRLSI Bitesize

Drop into a series of bite-sized talks throughout the day exploring topics like sustainable cities and practical repair skills everyone should know.

And if that wasn’t enough, there is plenty of free fun for children. Enjoy our designated space for families, with sustainability-themed activities to keep younger visitors entertained while inspiring the next generation of makers and fixers. BRLSI’s programme for families, Academy of Imagination will bring children the chance to create their very own Sock Puppets and Sock Puppet Theatres and invite them to take part in building a huge collaborative city using Makedo tools and bricks.

FixFest is generously supported by Bath and West Community Energy, SOMER, and Future Fashion Works, and takes place at the BRLSI building at 16 Queen Square, Bath, between 10am and 4pm on 10th October.
