In 1956 “There was jiving and shouting at the Forum Cinema, Bath, last night during the performance of this film, but no police action was necessary” (Bath Chronicle 3 September). People clapped! Tapped their feet! Jived in the aisles!

My eldest brother tells me that he and his wife were there in 1956! The previous year, they had held their wedding reception in the Forum Ballroom. I used to go dancing there (Ballroom and Latin American) in the late ’60s/early ’70s. The Goodyear School of Dancing, subsequently the Bath Dancentre.
