It’s been six months now since Lucy Littlewood took over as Director of the American Museum and Gardens.
She’s wasted no time in making her mark on the place. Along with staff and volunteers, she’s been trying out all the different jobs that keep this unique museum running. From spending time in the ticket office and sat in as a guide for visitors with questions in the building’s period rooms.
Besides this, she has been holding lunchtime sessions with people in the area who she thinks might have professional advice and expertise to help her develop her ideas for the enterprise’s future.
My husband and I were lucky enough to attend such a session yesterday. Our thanks to her and the catering staff!

Afterwards I couldn’t resist visiting the gardens. The lack of rain is hitting hard – like everywhere else – but the flower beds still look amazing.
Apart from anything else, this is a museum that allows you to escape the nearby city and relax in beautiful rural surroundings.
