Patchwork people

[Today’s patchwork people!]

Pop into Bath Library on a Friday morning, and they could have you in stitches.

Quite literally, too!

That’s where Bath Artists Studios are running a community patchwork project involving just about anyone in the city who can thread a needle.

The aim is to make a large patchwork piece – more of an artwork than the basics for a quilt – which will be displayed during Thanksgiving celebrations at the American Museum.

The project, which is unfunded, is working with community groups and charities across the city, collaborating to create something that is symbolic of unity and belonging.

The idea is for the people of Bath to embroider something meaningful onto a square of silk. These will then be sewn together to create a patchwork that represents Bath in all its diverse ways

Drop-in sessions are held each week in the main library above Waitrose on Fridays from 10 am to 12 noon. Anyone can have a go. They’ve even been teaching university students to embroider – girls and boys!

I went along to talk to Lindy Wright, who came up with the idea, and Emski Reichenback, who is curating the project.
