How ironic that l should be waiting at a bus stop alongside this building when l overheard a conversation regarding very much unconfirmed news of the closure of, not only Post Office services in Larkhall, but the loss of that facility on Union Street where WH Smith became TJ Jones?

Is it but a silly rumour? Has anyone else heard a similar tale? I know nationally the Post Office is looking to close or relocate around 115 branches to cut costs as visits decline.
NB. Already hearing in the comments below that the Larkhall closure appears to be a temporary thing.
Surely Bath cannot be without some central counter space, or are we, with the internet replacing letters and cards, victims of our own changing habits?
I have sent an email to the national press office for the Post Office, and hope to get an official response.

Of course, the old central post office, which used to house the former Postal Museum in its basement, is destined to become the new location for Bath’s Fashion Museum.
The Council is waiting with fingers crossed to hear if they have won Heritage Lottery Fund backing to help with the multi-million-pound costs.
But back to my wait at the bus stop. Where this soon-to-be 77-year-old spent 50 minutes on his two feet, watching as a number 7 he had waited 25 minutes for just disappeared from the electronic board.
How lucky was I that eventually, along came a plucky little bread-van-of-a-type bus proudly bearing the number 779. I will look out for it again as it stops near the top end of our road. Meaning I don’t have to climb up the hill.
A couple of excavations to note.

That electrical fault that caused an explosion outside the Guildhall – with enough force to lift the paving slabs – is being dealt with.

Currently, they’ve exposed quite a bit of underground cabling.

While in Manvers Street, work continues on the lengthy job of uncovering and, where necessary, strengthening cellars under the road.
One final observation. June is Pride Month, and for reasons I still don’t really understand, B&NES decided to fly the Pride flag in Parade Gardens. Something about the roof on the Guildhall not being safe to walk on?

Well, here we are on June 27th, and it’s no longer flying. It’s been replaced with an Armed Forces Day flag.

While l am certainly not against acknowledging our Armed Forces, maybe one flag pole in Parade Gardens is not enough? Or better access given to the flagpoles on the roof of our City Hall.
Too much flag-consciousness if you ask me. Why do we need all this stupid emblematic validation all the time? The country is stiff with flags at the moment and I’m heartily sick of them. Let’s just keep one on the Abbey and one on the Guildhall and have done with it.
Re the post office – this morning, there was a notice pinned on door of the Larkhall convenience store saying something like The PO service is currently unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances. I didn’t have time to go in and ask about it. That PO is massively busy, almost always queues, and I often feel sorry for the guys who run it, they are so over-stretched with the shop as well.
On a completely other topic – Did anyone else see/hear the absolutely massive swarm of bees this morning about 10.30? This was over the Salisbury Road area, they were flying quite high up, but some were swooping down to 1st floor level. Buzz noise of the wings was incredible. Then they seemed to move off after 5 mins or so towards NE direction. Wonder where they came from and where they went.
Never understood why Widcombe doesn’t have a local Post Office.
