Chris May has told me that he recently took a friend, a former member of the Austrian Parliament, through Bath’s Sydney Gardens on their way into the city centre.
He writes: “I was embarrassed by the state of the hard surfaces, which were potholed and are a risk to safety for elderly people walking or cause difficulties for young mothers with toddlers and prams.

I realise that budgets are stretched, but since this is both a safety as well as an aesthetic issue, I would hope that the council would take action to repair this, especially since failure could lead to a claim against the council and its insurers.”
Chris has copied in his Bathwick councillors, and Cllr Manda Rigby has said she will meet him on Friday to discuss this. I am sure he will let me know how he gets on.
