New scanner at Sulis

New equipment at the Peasedown St John-based Sulis Hospital is going to speed up the amount of time patients will have to spend in an MRI scanner.

It’s also going to positively impact the waiting list and enhance image quality.

The brand new MAGNETOM Sola 1.5T MRI scanning system utilises Biomatrix technology to automatically adjust to each patient’s unique anatomy.

This addition reinforces Sulis Hospital’s commitment to delivering exceptional diagnostic services and outstanding patient experience.

Patient comfort has been a central focus in the introduction of the new scanner. The system is designed with a wider bore and quieter scanning technology, helping to reduce anxiety and improve the overall experience – particularly for patients who may feel claustrophobic or require longer imaging sessions.

Radiographers can focus on the patient’s needs, helping each patient through the experience.

The addition of a second MRI scanner also increases capacity within the radiology department, helping to reduce waiting times and improve access to diagnostic imaging for patients across the region.

Simon Milner, Hospital Director of Sulis Hospital, said:

“Investing in AI-enabled MRI technology is transforming diagnostic imaging by improving availability for patients, reducing the time required for each scan and enhancing image quality.

This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centred care. The MAGNETOM Sola system allows us to deliver more imaging while ensuring a more comfortable experience for patients.”

The expanded MRI service supports a wide range of clinical pathways, including orthopaedics, oncology, neurology and general diagnostics, ensuring that patients benefit from timely and accurate assessments.

Sulis Hospital continues to invest in the latest medical technologies and facilities, ensuring patients receive the very best in modern healthcare.

  1. Sulis is a marvellous facility but there’s no direct bus service from Bath which makes it difficult for patients without a car.
