You come home through the lane alongside your boundary wall and suddenly realise someone has been chopping back your ivy and exposing the fence beneath.

My husband then explored the rest of our boundary wall and saw more examples of ‘hacking’ and mess left behind where ivy and shrubbery had been cut back.
As an end-of-terrace property, we have a public footbath on two sides of our property. It extends down the hill behind our neighbours .

Along the rest of its length, real patches of weeds have been ignored, and weed-laden steps leading up to a substation and to the back of neighbouring garages also remain unscathed.

A neighbour told us it was council workers involved here, and one wonders what instructions they were given.
We are angry because no one actually told us this was going to be done. There is no argument about vegetation obstructing the lane.
Also, the roots of the ivy are in our garden! We manage the shrubbery on the external side of our wall and do not appreciate this reckless action.
I have complained to B&NES and to our ward councillors.
Come and do the job properly and get rid of the real weeds!
To be honest my sympathies are with the council, especially given the need to keep access open to the substation. All over Bath homeowners are letting their hedges colonise public areas – only the other day I actually had to step out into the road to get round one hedge – and personally I’m pleased to see council action against such anti-social behaviour
Our hedges do not block footpaths !
