Pic of the day. Thursday, May 14th

There we were quietly enjoying a walk around the Holburne’s annual plant and craft fair when suddenly we were aware of the boom boom sound of loud music.

I thought it was a passing car stuck at traffic lights, but no. A crowd of joggers appeared running down the pavement in Great Pulteney Street, preceded by a ‘beat box’ at full volume.

We were witnessing what I hear is the latest jogging craze, but does the rest of Bath have to listen to it?

It’s certainly what I would call a ‘look at me’ moment. What do you think?

  1. Is it any worse than the illegally modified motorbike riders inflicting their ear splitting exhaust noise on thousands of residents as they belt around our city? Many clearly exceeding the speed limit, knowing the police are unwilling to engage in a pursuit.

Most have their number plates obscured/flipped up on a special hinge/faked. The whole issue seems to be growing.

  2. … or the near-constant police & ambulance sirens, disturbing residents all day long, throughout Bathwick, ever since the LTN traffic jams came in to being. A 3 minute music interlude pales in comparison.

  3. I very much agree with Guy. This is by far more of an irritant than the joggers’ boombox, because not only are those illegal exhausts on cars and bikes much louder, but you have to suffer them multiple times a day.

  4. An instance of the general trend of not caring whether others have to listen to your taste in music. Have you been on a train recently?

  5. We noticed that obnoxious selfish group of runners with their loud music too, disturbing the peace with their anti-social behaviour.
Agree with Guy Hodgson about the noisy inconsiderate and illegal motorbikes as well.
Both groups should be arrested, fined, have their equipment confiscated until they learn some respect for the people they live among!
As the wonderful Fran Lebovitz would say “pretend it’s a city!” and learn some manners!!!

  6. We were in Sydney Gardens when they came noisily through. There is a time and place for this type and volume of music but this wasn’t it. It went on for ages and then as far as I could tell, they went down the towpath, treating walkers and boaters to it. Just because motorcyclists and even cars rush around noisily and illegally, it doesn’t make this acceptable. It isn’t. I don’t know who is organising it but I wish they would stop. It did appear that quite a lot of runners were embarrassed by it, as they seemed to be trying to distance themselves from it so it may be counterproductive.

  7. I was having a gentle peaceful walk along the canal and was forced off the path! Also it was pretty early disturbing the day off for many workers wanting peace. Don’t object to runners but please turn the volume down and be considerate of others.

  8. There’s a guy who regularly cycles under my balcony overlooking the river path who has a very loud beat box . I must say, I quite like it. Preferable to the out of tune screeching emanating from the endless hen party boats infesting the river these days. There’s a limit to how many times I can listen to aspiring Spice Girls attempting What I Really Really Want in a day.

  9. Personally I quite like it! I think its a fun activity and its never bothered me. Nice to see young people out getting active and socialising! Hardly a bother to hear a bit of music for a minute or two.
