Is the end in sight?

Remember this? The glass canopy which used to adorn the entrance to The Corridor at the High Street end.

Back in 2019 l was reporting internal repairs to the arcade’s glass roof and wondering if anything would be done about the entrance canopy which appeared to be in a bit of a state?

See below.

Last year they finally got around to dismantling it and sending off the framework bits to IronArt in Larkhall for repairs.

Since then – nothing. I happen to know IronArt have completed their part of the project and everything is ready for re-assembly.

It amazes me how things drag on. I constantly check with our friendly ironworkers but they had heard nothing.

Then, this morning, as l look through the weekly list of planning applications l spot one which will move this story on!!

It’s an application seeking approval for the re-installation of the canopy and the way in which it is proposed to do this.

Can someone just say YES! and let them get on with restoring the canopy so that the businesses trying to operate beneath it can finally see the end to all the disruption.

  1. B&NES please say YES before this part of our city heritage disintegrates forever. Why not advertise for volunteers to be part of your organised team to pitch for funding for this sort of project. The willing need guidance and appropriate wording for applications and pitches to those both council and private funders so the team of volunteers can pitch the right message to the right funders (private and others) and get this to actually happen. They are out there I promise.
