Colour our world

Just spent a few days in York and have to say I got quite excited about one idea the city is using to create what might otherwise soon become a blot on its urban landscape.

Utility and electric boxes (often called street cabinets) are being painted as part of an Outside the Box” project. It’s a public art initiative aimed at making the city centre cleaner, safer and more vibrant.

The project, led by the York BID, aims to deter vandalism, including graffiti and flyposting, celebrate local heritage, and enhance the streetscape.

It’s also giving local artists a chance to showcase their talents

Maybe Bath BID could take up the idea here. I have only ever seen a few street cabinets in our city being decorated. Also, what about the ugly concrete blocks??!!

I also mentioned before how lovely the flower beds are as you come up to Royal Crescent, but wondered if such prim and proper beds were a little old-fashioned?

Here’s the way they do their bedding in York. What do you think?
