We are now technically without a city mayor until a new one is elected at the annual general meeting of the Charter Trustees which will be held at Bath Abbey early in June.
The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Ian Halsall will obviously be stepping up when it comes to weekly engagements n the Mayor’s Diary – with some support, l am told, from previous mayors.
It’s a unusual situation and a case of making do until the new mayor is installed in a couple of months.
Is it really unique, I wonder? Several cases of mayors who died in office or resigned and there are no fewer than seven mayors listed for 1285! Normal procedure appears to have been to elect a replacement within a few weeks.
