Doses of History

Bath Medical Museum is launching its own podcast!

The charity is delighted to announce that it has been awarded £13,180 from Art Fund, the national charity for museums and galleries, enabling them to create an exciting new medical history podcast titled Doses of History

Jenny Waldman, Director of Art Fund, said:

“At the core of Art Fund’s purpose is supporting museums to develop, care for and share the collections that enrich people’s lives. I’m delighted we’ve been able to support Bath Medical Museum through our final round of Reimagine funding, enabling museums to explore their collections, connect with communities and ensure that works of art, objects and their stories are shared and preserved for future generations.”

What does this mean for us?

The podcast will reveal fascinating stories from Bath’s rich medical past while also exploring wider contexts. It was launched on February 1st with episode 1: The Wandering Womb, with five more being produced during 2026. Each episode will have guest speakers of varying backgrounds – medical historians, doctors, heritage experts, and others to offer different perspectives.

Each episode will also be accompanied with a physical exhibition at the museum displaying objects from our collection. We hope to not only tell the stories but also dispel some medical myths along the way!

Doses of History is produced and hosted by BMM Trustees – Honey Musham, James Hunt and Karen Espinosa. With backgrounds in history and heritage, they will ensure they are researching the very best stories to share.

The goal of the podcast is to strengthen our connections with audiences and celebrate the extraordinary medical heritage of Bath and the wider contexts. We have just finished ‘The Wandering Womb’ exhibition and had overwhelmingly positive feedback. Episode 2: ‘Cut it off! – Amputations and Agony’ (available April 1st) and its exhibition (April, dates TBC) is shaping up to be just as exciting.

All exhibitions are free entry. Bath Medical Museum is located in the Hetling Pump Room opposite Thermae Spa. The museum is accessible. There are no toilets in the museum, the closest ones would be M&S or the public toilets next door to M&S.

Please always check our Facebook and Instagram pages for the latest updates.
