27 hour makeover

Community action has transformed the Odd Down Community Centre – according to an email from Julianne Mackrell.

She writes:

“It really is amazing what can be achieved when a community pulls together.

A collective 27 hours of labour has transformed the Centre.

The Odd Down Community Association (ODCA) asked residents for support in improving the community centre at Odins Road.

ODCA formed a group of willing volunteers to paint the community centre’s main room which is used for the youth club, toddler groups and activities provided by Bath Area Play Project (BAPP).

It is a wonderful boost to this often forgotten area of Bath, the volunteers said; they feel true value in doing something good to give back to the community.

The community centre was saved from demolition with the help of Councillor Steve Hedges some years ago, but the centre is in desperate need of an upgrade, so volunteers have come together to give the youth club and others who benefit from the use of the building something fresh for 2026.

Bath Area Play Project works from this building; there are also numerous other groups, so it is the hub of the community.

Johnstone’s decorators saw the plea for volunteers and offered the materials in a bid to support the community, and ODCA would like to offer public thanks for that.

A fun day was had by everyone involved, and ODCA continues to go from strength to strength, supporting projects in the area.

Well done to all involved.

Meanwhile, l hear that GP Manners and the architecture of the Odd  Down Workhouse is the subject of a talk organised by Odd Down history group on January 22nd.
