Good to hear that Bath Philharmonia is announcing the return of Bath Phil for Free, its successful scheme designed to remove financial barriers, increase access and share the joy of live orchestral music.
The scheme offers every household in Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES) a free ticket to select concerts during the 2025/26 season.
The next eligible concert is the orchestra’s highly anticipated performance on Thursday, 27 November at The Forum, featuring star violinist Esther Abrami.
A Pioneer for Classical Music
The 27 November programme provides the perfect entry point for those new to the live orchestral experience. It features the compelling and insightful guest conductor Rebecca Miller leading the orchestra in Ralph Vaughan Williams’ majestic Symphony No. 5, alongside social media sensation Esther Abrami performing Ina Boyle’s evocative and serene Violin Concerto.
Esther Abrami has revolutionised the way classical music is presented. With over a million followers across her social media platforms, she successfully breaks traditional rules to make classical music accessible and loved by young audiences.
Speaking about the work, Esther Abrami said: “I fell in love with the concerto and with the idea of what Ina Boyle went through during her life. She was a student of Ralph Vaughan Williams and developed her compositions between the two World Wars.
I think it’s quite poignant that she never had any success during her lifetime… Ralph Vaughan Williams wrote to Ina, ‘It is so courageous of you to keep composing with such little recognition. The only thing I can say is that sometimes it does come eventually’”.
Her passionate advocacy for the work and its composer, Ina Boyle, brings a significant and emotional layer to the performance.
