[Thomas pictured with the book]
I was pleased to receive an email from Thomas Messel, which l read on my return from Germany.
Followers of bathnewseum.com may remember l interviewed him about the publication of his recent book on Elizabeth Linley, the Bath-born singing sensation of the 18th century.
Thomas writes: ‘This wonderful review was published in today’s issue of Country Life. It strikes your chord that Elizabeth Linley should be Bath’s true heroine and not merely as the girl who eloped with a playwright.

We are in Italy now until 6 December, but in my absence, I’m arranging for a good quality promotional leaflet to be delivered to every house/flat in Royal Crescent and The Circus, so as to make local residents aware of the history of their street and the local heroine who lived amongst them.
It would be especially good if a film production team could be lured to her.”
Agreed Thomas – a movie in the making!
PS. Congratulations to Richard Wendorf too! This former Director of the American Museum in Bath has written to tell me: “I’m pleased that the Conrad Press has just published my second ‘entertainment,’ a sequel to The Subtle Thief, featuring the same characters and their exploits in the New York art world.

I believe that The Man Who Looked Too Closely is being stocked by Mr B’s; it is also possible that it will be available at Toppings and Waterstones. In any case, it is certainly available on amazon.co.uk.”
