Always good to hear from Ralph Oswick, and this time on the subject of the recent restoration of the ornate street lamps in Royal Crescent.
Ralph writes: ‘Your pic showed the splendid restoration of a lamppost in Royal Crescent. Those in other parts of town are not doing so well.

This is a sad example by the bus stop in Westgate Buildings. The one by the equally scruffy Min seems to have turned a wan shade of blue.

The idea of highlighting the detail with colour and gold came, I think, from David Beeton and his team, who started with the one outside the White Hart in Widcombe (also now looking sad) and then multiplied to doing every one on this model across the city. This was some years ago, and really, they all need a bit of t&c.’
