‘Yes – that subject again.
I picked up this leaflet in Penzance.
The scheme is supported by Penzance Council, and people can go into any of the participating cafes and venues without being a customer. The businesses receive a payment from the Council to cover their costs (washroom supplies, cleaning, etc).
Such a great idea! Wish we could do that in Bath… ‘
As I get older, it’s a major grumble l carry with me, Ann. I know you ladies often have to queue for the toilet in Waitrose – alongside the library – well, l went to use the gents.
For your information – and look away if you are easily offended – we only have one urinal and one lock-up. There were plumbers in doing pipework (no notice on the door outside), so you could only really use the cubicle. Needless to say, l had to wait and wait.
Toilet provision in Bath is terrible, whatever B&NEs say.
Meanwhile, my friend Richard has pointed out that other councils seem to be able to improve matters.
Here’s what he spotted from the London and Labour-controlled borough of Islington.

So agree over Bath’s public toilet provision, it is very very poor and if you are a tourist how would you know where to go?
What a great idea by Penzance, yes all councils should do the same. Might help the local businesses to pay their high rates and keep the businesses in business.
This is undoubtedly a great idea and Bath would do well to take notice, but tearing a muscle in my thigh recently has brought to my attention the fact that a lot of cafes and other suitable premises in Bath have their toilets in the basement. If you’re not good on stairs these can be quite tricky to access.
I totally agree that toilet provision is hopeless in Bath. We have many tourists and I can’t imagine what they think.
Whatever our age we all have needs.
