Good to hear from Varian Tye over at Box
that the village is doing well in this year’s Best Kept Village Competition.
He writes: “Hazel Parker, a Parish Councillor, was delighted to receive this afternoon, on behalf of Box village, two Certificates from the CPRE (Campaign for the Protection of Rural England) awarded to Box for
- Judged 1st (in the large village category), North Wiltshire Round
- Judged 2nd (in the large village category). Wiltshire County Round

Varian included a quote from the Judge’s Report:
“Box has an incredible feeling of community. There is so much going on, and it has so many flourishing aspects… The village spaces are very well tended, and a recent appeal allowed the tennis courts to be resurfaced to a very high standard.
Various nature projects have been undertaken by volunteers and are being maintained to ensure they flourish….. public spaces are well cared for and the many rights of way and footpaths are clearly marked and maintained…. Much thought has gone into creating natural diversity and interest around the village.
The village comes together for several events in the calendar, including the Box Revels and Pantomime, and there is an excellent monthly magazine.
Box is a genuinely great village with a spirit of friendship and community.”
Thanks for that, Varian and well done to one and all.
