[Chris collecting his plaque stand from IronArt]

If you’ve been following the story of Chris Kilminster and his desire to have a city-centre memorial plaque which informs citizens, and our thousands of annual visitors, of Bath’s darker war days of death and destruction.

You will know he was hoping it would go in Orange Grove, but there seems to have been some confusion in the planning department about whether such an installation was allowed or not.

Well, I know efforts are being made on your behalf, Chris, but at least in the meantime, those lovely people over at IronArt in Larkhall have put together a stand for you free of charge!

Who thinks Chris should be granted his wish?

  1. Will this remember all 417 victims and is a plaque sufficient to remember all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. There is no longer a Memorial Service in April l
although I place a bouquet of flowers at the Cenotaph.

  2. When and where was the memorial service held? With a change of Rector at the Abbey it might be worth raising the matter again. News from Gaza and elsewhere has made us more conscious of the cost civilians can pay in war.

    1. Hi Helen. There is nio memorial service planned – as yet. Chris wants to get permission to put a plaque in Orange Grove to remind people how Bath suffered during the Second World War.

      1. It would still be a good idea to get the Abbey on board and supporting the campaign for the plaque – it takes Remembrance, including civilian casualties of war, very seriously with special concerts and a service so popular it is ticket-only, and is just round the corner from Orange Grove.
