What’s up at the ‘Min’

Following on from the good news that work has finally started on the conversion of the old KES School in Broad Street, comes news of activity within the old Royal Mineral Water Hospital, where the Fragrance Group of Singapore intend spending millions transforming this Grade 2* listed historic building into a luxury hotel.

Contractors are apparently currently spending six months making the building secure. Fixing the roof, taking down ceilings and putting in new RSJs to support the floors.

Meanwhile, the search is on to find a contractor to hopefully carry out the actual conversion over a couple of years.

Though with a restricted inner town site, it’s going to be more difficult getting lorries in and out and providing parking for the contractors and supporting trades.

Might need a little longer, and the whole thing costing a little more.

  1. They’re doing the bare minimum to keep it from falling down, and from getting a formal notice ro carry out works.
