This is in no way a theatre review, but l have to say how much l enjoyed attending a performance of The Addams Family musical at Bath’s Theatre Royal last night.
Although it’s an amateur production from Bath Light Operatic Group, there was nothing amateur about the efforts put in by the cast.
It’s not cheap to put on a show like this, and it’s also a brave move away from more ‘popular’ musicals, but the men and women who leave ordinary working lives for a few days under the spotlight deserve a lengthy round of applause.
Don’t go looking for much of a plot – events reminded me of other musicals like Rocky Horror Show and La Cage aux Folles – but for pure spectacle and ‘professional’ in-character acting – l’ll take my head – l mean hat – off!

These people have to learn lines AND dance steps and do both with aplomb. There were a few technical hitches – but with so much scene shifting, microphone-wired actors and props – it’s always a risk.
I am not going to name names; you can all take a bow, but Uncle Festers’ love song to the moon will haunt me for days!
Just a matinee and evening show today to go! Get a ticket – if you can.
